Why are you in Entrepreneurship? What do you get out of this?

Hello, my name is Alex J Jang, a senior at Oaks Christian School. I decided to take Entrepreneurship course for my deep interest in business for a long time. Also, I was looking forward to majoring Marketing and Entrepreneurship when I advance to college. I believe this course can offer many opportunities from understanding business to learning different ways that I never thought previously. In this capitalist society, I really want to know how to start and run a business and develop it further. It is true that business always exists in modern society, and I think this experience will significantly affect me as a stepping stone to success.

Because of my great interest in sports, I have been engaging in many sports-related internships whenever I went back to Korea during summer. Sports are one type of market that will never die in this world, which is not like petroleum business that will one day deplete completely. Despite the fact that sports business is somewhat limited, I believe there are many different ways that one can approach. During the summer, I worked as a paid intern for IB Worldwide Inc. IB Worldwide is currently the biggest sports marketing company in Korea and secures the exclusive broadcasting rights over sports contents such as MLB, AFC, Pride, UFC, KBL, and KLPGA. I had the opportunities to work not only in broadcasting rights, but also in sponsorship, licensing, merchandising, and marketing in major sporting events.

Even when I was studying in Oaks Christian School, I learned regular sports management process and built personal management skills to interact with many golf players. It was asked to work during 2015 ANA Inspiration LPGA Tour (04/02/15-04/05/15) because it was luckily Easter break in our school. Since I was particularly interested in golf, I translated Korean newsletter and articles and catalogued player’s information in English during many KLPGA Tours over the summer. Because this company started as extremely small business in Korea about approximately 10 years ago and expanded greatly over last decade, I started to gain interest in this type of business that nobody thought of before, however so helpful as organizer of sport industry after founded. Then, I tried working as operation staff in player management department in Korea Gymnastic Association, intern in Korea Professional Football League (Soccer) and Korean Volleyball Federation. All of these working experiences, although contained many trivial works, helped me to grow thinking as businessman.

Being a successful businessman like Warren Buffett, Donald Trump, and Steve Jobs may be one of many dreams of teenagers in America. However, I really want to develop myself not just working for successful companies but working to create own business with my ideas and thoughts. That is the primary reason that I chose to learn Entrepreneurship in Oaks Christian School: to learn how to think as an entrepreneur and become an entrepreneur.
